Programs for Kids

Through these programs TVA helps to support learning and enhance educational opportunities for children in the Valley.

Weekend Academy
weekend academyWeekend Academy provides students with enriched hands-on learning opportunities that support education, increase knowledge of community and business relations, and foster preparation for various future career choices.  The Weekend Academy is a Saturday enrichment program dedicated to enhancing learning for select students in grades three through five from Title One schools by:

  • Increasing self-esteem and zest for life-long learning
  • Empowering parents with resources for present and future educational support
  • Equipping students to take advantage of future career and life opportunities.

Weekend Academy was developed originally by TVA but is now a non-profit organization, operating in Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.  The participation of volunteers helps make the program a real community effort. Partners in Education
1st class partnersTVA’s Partners in Education program was formed to strengthen the bonds between TVA and schools in the Tennessee Valley. The aim is to contribute to the academic and personal growth of students by sharing ideas and resources, helping them gain the knowledge and skills they need to meet the challenges of the future. TVA employees assist with activities and field trips, provide materials for projects, and help out in a variety of other ways.

At this time, 85 schools are Partners in Education with TVA organizations in locations across the Valley.

If you are interested in having your school participate in Partners in Education, please call Katie Bell at 865-632-3756, or e-mail her at tvainfo@tva.gov (Attn.: Katie Bell).
